Cops in Cottonwood, Arizona had their hands full in a Walmart parking lot when they wanted to sort out a disturbance at the local Walmart.  Seems a family of squatters, who charitably described themselves as a Christian Rock band, decided to get pushy and wouldn’t let anyone into the store’s restroom.

That led to a call to police and that’s where the video picks up.

Here’s the story from CNN:

(CNN) – Arizona investigators have released dramatic video of a Walmart parking lot brawl that left a police officer wounded, one man dead, and reportedly involved members of a Christian family band.

Enoch Gaver, 21, was killed in the fight in the town of Cottonwood, and suspect David Gaver, 28, was shot in the stomach and taken into custody. Police Sergeant Jeremy Daniels was hit in the leg by a bullet fired during the melee.

…Officers wanted to question them about the alleged assault of a Walmart employee who was going into the store bathroom. The police were accompanied by another Walmart employee.

On the video, an officer tells the group that they “need to separate these folks and talk to them.” Someone then responds, “No, you are not going to separate me from my parents,” and, “don’t touch me.”

The video then shows a police officer being put in a headlock and knocked to the ground.

This is the unedited, unredacted, unblurred version.

It’s pandemonium!

Kudos on the passersby for helping the police who had their hands full with the violently resisting family.

Kudos to the cops for their restraint, particularly after one of the family had already shot one of the responding officers and then ANOTHER tried to go for the injured cop’s head!

What a mess.

The lesson:  things can spiral out of control in a heartbeat, even in a place where you don’t expect trouble.  Have a plan and a backup plan in case things go sideways.

  1. Just when you think it’s about over, it keeps going.
Would not want to be a good person with a gun trying to help out. Might very well get mistaken for one of them and get shot.
