Semantha Bunce (pictured in hospital with friend Hollie Ritchie) was shot twice when intruders broke into her home in east Charlotte, North Carolina.  Caption via Daily Mail.

Initially I wasn’t going to run this story because it looked like the young female combat medic Semantha Bunce might not survive her injuries after her valiant defense of her home from at least two of America’s criminal culture.

Well, not only does it look like she’s going to make it, she’s making a remarkable recovery.

Hats off to her for doing what needed doing and congratulations on her recovery.

Cops have nabbed at least one of her attackers and it looks like he won’t be making bail anytime soon.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Mrs. Bunce’s friend and is now up to $60,000 to help the young couple deal with the expenses related to the attack.  (Hint:  I’m sure they’ll be moving if it hasn’t already happened.)

Home invader who ‘burst in while hero soldier mom was breast-feeding and shot her in gun battle’ is charged

  • Semantha Bunce, 21, was at home feeding her son when intruders broke into her house on Sunday
  • Reco Latur Dawkins Jr, 23, turned himself in to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police on Sunday and is being held in jail
  • Bunce, a combat medic with the National Guard, fired back at her assailants from her bedroom door

  • It is unknown how many other suspects were involved in the break-in

(Daily Mail) – Police have charged a 23-year-old man with attempted murder after a shootout with an Army National Guard combat medic in the stairwell of her home.

  • Reco Latur Dawkins Jr turned himself in to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police on Sunday and was charged with attempted murder, felony breaking and entering and conspiracy to commit felony breaking and entering in connection to the Tuesday break-in.

Semantha Bunce, 21, was at home breast-feeding her four-month-old son Bentley when the intruders arrived on Tuesday morning, according to CNN.

The men knocked on the front door, rang the doorbell and kicked in the door of her home east Charlotte, North Carolina.

The mother-of-two quickly took her son to the bedroom and placed him in the crib before grabbing her gun.

When the men opened fire at her in the stairwell, she then fired back from the bedroom door.

WSOC has a nice followup report on how thankful Semantha is to first-responders, her friends and co-workers, her husband and the community in general.  It’s worth your two minutes.

  1. I liked the video, but didn’t like that it autoplayed.

The best part of Reco Latur Dawkins Jr ended up as a stain on the floor. Making black people everywhere proud as can be, aren’t you Reco?

It’s too bad Indiana doesn’t have the death penalty for attempted murder, because this mope deserves nothing more than a dull wood chipper to send him to his afterlife in Hell.

    1. I didn’t get the video…just audio, and no way to stop it without closing the window.
