A couple of weeks ago, Mayor Bloomberg’s Mommies Demanding Action were unable to sway the Niles, IL Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals to stop the zoning approval for a new gun shop and indoor shooting range in that village.
That meeting was an arduous four-hour event – thanks to endless public comment where the Moms chewed their fingernails while ignorantly sputtering bigoted and faulty “facts” about guns and gun owners.
Following a 5-2 vote to recommend approval of the new facility, Bloomberg’s petulant Mommies had a temper tantrum and promised to redouble their efforts to stop the new business at the formal village board meeting on July 22nd.
Well, last night was the meeting and it was standing-room only.
It didn’t go well for Bloomberg’s Mommies. They demanded action and were left empty-handed.
They tried though, rhetorically flailing around, regurgitating all sorts of misinformation and falsehoods about guns. Guns are evil and gun owners are bogeyman. School district officials testified that the new range and gun store would be “too close” to schools.
They weren’t alone though. Gun owners and supporters of the proposed facility far outnumbered them. The good guys brought facts, not feelings.
After hours of contentious public comment, the new business was approved on a 4-1 vote.
(Chicago Tribune) – A proposed gun shop/shooting range that has generated controversy because of its location near several schools will be coming to Niles.
The Niles Village Board of Trustees voted 4-1 Tuesday to approve a special use permit to allow firearms sales, firearms safety training and an indoor firing range at the proposed location of 6143 Howard St.
About 200 supporters and critics of the plan packed the Niles Municipal Building to make their voices heard on the gun shop, to be called Sportsman’s Club and Firearms Training Academy.
Dozens wore green shirts and ribbons to honor victims of school gun violence, while others wore stickers like “Gun Control is NOT Kosher.”
Trustee John Jekot, who voted for the permit, said he could not find studies that showed that the location of a gun shop to a school increased the amount of gun violence against students.
Bloomberg has dropped $50 million on his gun control allies this year and so far they have met with nothing but one failure after another. If they can’t even stop the zoning approval of a new gun store in a tiny village of less than 30,000 in Illinois, why are we at all worried about them?

We all need to stay vigilant and worry about them. Our Rights can be gone in an instant if we slack off. He can buy one or two Senators for a special vote and there you go. Trust but verify. I don’t trust any democrat when it comes to our gun rights.
You are 100% correct. This was winning a battle, not winning the war. Their goal is longterm, to indoctrinate the youths into their way of thinking. My vision of the future is frightening.
