Donald J. Trump and Ted Cruz have both helped generate incredible interest among everyday Americans in this year’s Republican race for President.  As we reported weeks ago (READING THE TEA LEAVES: Hillary’s in for rough sledding, as are all Democrats in November  and  ENTHUSIASM GAP GROWING: Say hello to “President Trump” while Democrats suffer a bloodbath come November), the Republican turnout in this year’s primary race is setting new records.

How much is Republican participation thus far this primary season?

It’s up more than 8 million over 2012’s Republican primaries.

(Breitbart) – Newly compiled data after the New York Republican primary shows that among the states that have voted so far in 2016, GOP primary and caucus turnout is up well more than 8 million votes and well more than 60 percent over 2012’s process.

Top GOP officials say that the intense interest in the GOP primary throughout the year so far only serves to benefit the Republican nominee in November, whoever it ends up being.

In total, so far, nationwide the GOP has seen an increase of 8,719,041 votes in 2016’s primaries, caucuses and conventions over 2012’s primaries, caucuses and conventions. In 2012, 14,452,500 people voted in each of the states and territories that have held contests so far in 2016. In 2016, 23,171,541 people have voted in the GOP contests so far. That is a 60.33 percent increase in GOP contest turnout in just four years.

And Trump as an individual candidate is already ahead of how many votes Romney garnered in 2012 before losing to Obama in the general election.

(NY Post) – Donald Trump will likely wind up winning the most primary votes of any GOP presidential candidate in modern history, the author of the influential Smart Politics blog told The Post on Wednesday.

After convincing victories in Tuesday’s primaries in five East Coast states, Trump has roughly 10.1 million votes, about 200,000 more than Mitt Romney got during the entire 2012 primary campaign.

Meanwhile, Democrats are struggling badly on turnout.  For instance, in the South, Democratic turnout is down almost 50% since the last contested primary in 2008 – this is despite big population gains, too.

Nationwide, that number is about 20% – or about 4.5 million fewer voters.

(Breitbart) – Election data compiled by Breitbart News on the Democratic Party’s primaries and caucuses in 2016 and 2008 show that turnout in is down significantly, nearly 20 percent, from the last contested election.

The data also show that the about 4.5 million fewer people have voted in the Democratic presidential contest this year versus 2008.

Democrats have a lot of reason to be worried in the November elections.  They are looking at a bloodbath if the trend continues.

  1. How do the total Republican primary votes cast compare to the total Democrat primary votes cast? We need more data. 4.5 million fewer democrat voters than last time means nothing if there still more democrat votes than republican votes.

  2. 23 million have taken the Republican ballot thus far.

19 million have taken the Democrat ballot.

Democrats are worried and if they are not, they are clueless.

    Go Trump Go!

  3. I believe that Ted Cruz would be a better president and better qualified to pick Supreme Court nominations the Trump. But if Trump succeeds and Cruz doesn’t I’m not going to be so butthurt that I vote for that no good bitch Hellary or stay home and not vote. I will vote for whoever the Republican nominee is. Trump scares me, but Hellary plumb frightens the scalded shit right out of me. For those of you that support Trump I hope you feel the same way about Cruz. There were to many people that didn’t vote or voted for that horse’s ass SOBama last election because Romney wasn’t the perfect person. well he wasn’t perfect but he was better than that ass we got.
