Senator Elgie Sims and his family.  He’s outraged that a felon who threatened him with an illegally carried and possessed gun was released on just $1500 bail thanks to the Illinois Affordable Bail law he voted for…  Image courtesy of his Facebook page.

Once upon a time not so long ago, Democrat State Senator Elgie Sims supported a bill to “reform” our cash bail system.  He voted to set bail not based upon the seriousness of the crime but upon the offender’s ability to pay.  They called it “affordable bail.”

But everything wasn’t happily ever after.  Affordable wasn’t good enough for the soft-on-crime Chicago pol.  So he sponsored a bill to eliminate cash bail altogether in the Land of Lincoln.  That bill passed last session and the governor signed it into law.  However, the “no cash bail” provisions don’t kick in for another year or two.

Now this same Democrat Senator Elgie Sims (who opposes our gun ownership rights) is outraged – OUTRAGED I tell you! – that a felon illegally possessing a handgun who threatened the good Senator in Springfield and was immediately released after posting a paltry $1500 bail.

You can’t make this stuff up, folks.

From CWB Chicago:

Senator who sponsored cash bail ban is outraged: Driver who threatened him with gun only had to post $1,500 to get out of jail

An Illinois state senator who sponsored recently-signed legislation that will eliminate cash bail in the state by 2023 is outraged that a man who allegedly flashed a gun at him while driving only had to post $1,500 to get out of jail.

“By him being released on bail, he’s free to do this again,” Sen. Elgie Sims of Chicago told the State-Journal Register.

Yet just last month Sims tweeted, “money bond doesn’t guarantee public safety or someone’s appearance in court, it supports a system where freedom is based on the size of someone’s bank account. We’ve tried the failed tough on crime polices [sic] of the past.”

The legislation Sims sponsored in January will soon prohibit Illinois judges from setting any cash bail except when the defendant “poses a real and present threat” to safety.

Funny how when the shoe is on the other foot, these high and mighty legislators have a very different take on public safety!

“By him being released on bail, he’s free to do this again,” said Democrat Sen. Elgie Sims.

No kidding, Sherlock.

  1. You asked for it, you got it. Enjoy it!
Don’t forget to turn in all you guns for safety. You have children in the house.

  2. I’ll bet Senator Sims hires armed security to protect him and his family. He should be able to afford that.

  3. Absolutely brilliant. Hey genius, your constituents have to deal with people like him every day, it kind of sucks doesn’t it? If a person is so dangerous they cannot be trusted with a gun, either because of criminal acts they have committed or mental issues, they need to be locked up because as you can see now, if they are outside of a prison they will have a gun.

Now you want to be really scared? This guy probably had a gun to replace the one taken by police before his case was entered into the court’s website the same day he posted bond. And he now knows who you are and where you live. Since you don’t believe the People should have guns to defend themselves and their loved ones, it will be kind of hard to difficult to explain if he does show up with bad intentions and you shoot him in order to keep him from eliminating the only witness to his crime, how you are against guns.

You could always step across the aisle and become a republican, but you will have to change your tune and start trusting your constituents.
