Gov. Gary Johnson today heads the Libertarian Party.  He and his party are enjoying some extra attention this campaign season with all of the "NeverTrump" talk.  I know some gun owners have been very harsh on Donald Trump when it comes to the Second Amendment, but I haven't heard hardly anything about Gary Johnson choosing a very anti-gun Vice-President nominee in former Massachusetts Gov. William Weld.  Weld has continued to talk like an anti-gunner in recent interviews, calling America's favorite rifle a "weapon of mass destruction".  Idiot.

Now, news has come down the pike that Johnson has chosen a Moms Demand Action Spokeswoman as his Connecticut Campaign Chair.

The Daily Beast has the story:

Melissa Joan Hart, star of Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, Melissa & Joey, and Christian-right drama God’s Not Dead 2, has just been appointed the Connecticut chairwoman of the 2016 presidential campaign of Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson.

“I want to break away from this two-party system and I think it’s important for people to know that there’s another candidate out there who really toes the line between Democrat and Republican,” Hart, who has a residence in Connecticut, told People. “I mean he’s libertarian. But socially he’s liberal, but fiscally conservative … [Johnson] was on a border state, so if you want to talk about immigration, he’s the guy.”

Here's the story about her and her role as spokewoman for Moms Demand Action.

Nice job, Gary.  Hiring an anti-gun pop tart as a state campaign chair.  Why should anyone take you seriously?

Until and unless the Libertarian Party walks the walk in addition to talking the talk about more liberty and less government, they will forever be a fringe party.  Right now, they aren't walking or talking.

  1. Gary Johnson also believes in mandatory vaccines. Not very libertarian of him. He's a joke. Unfortuately for the Libertarian Party Johnson will hurt their effort not help it.

  2. I certainly don't trust Moms Demand Action as ageneral rule, but this "SMART" campaign doesn't seem objectionable. I watched the video and key points were to encourage safe storage, safe handling, acknowledging that kids can find hiding spots, and being aware of potential mental health issues for family members.

She also states that people have the right to own guns and she doesn't qualify it with a "but." There was no calls for laws to be passed nor was there any demonizing pf gun owners. The video isn't telling us anything we don't already know and advocate. Honestly, much of the information presented in the video is exactly the same as what the NSSF posts. So aside from the Moms Demand brand, this isn't really offensive.

I know some people take issue with the whole issue of asking other parents if they have unsecured guns in the home. I was at first too because I was swept up with all the angst about it as well. My kid is 2 years old now and my wife tells me that "the question" has come up a couple of times. And she answers, "yes and they are locked up in a safe." Easy. Not once has it resulted in condemnation or cancelled play dates. And if it did? My kid is probably better off.

And as for Gary Johnson? I'm still liking the libertarians more than either of the main candidates. Not that it matters. This is Illinois after all.

    1. Funny how filling the country with reliable Democrat voters is suddenly a libertarian principle.  Gary Johnson is a stealth liberal Democrat.  But, he does claim to agree with Bernie Sanders on most issues, so he would be an excellent choice for Bernie supporters who are not interested in voting for the most corrupt politician in human history.
