Guns Save Life members have taken a liking to the HOOAH Deer Hunt for Heroes program, a group of people who take wounded soldiers from Ft. Campbell, Kentucky and other bases for some “Healing Outside of a Hospital” time as these soldiers are preparing to leave the military and rejoin the civilian world.

GSL has become, through both financial, promotional and volunteer assistance, become one of HOOAH’s largest supporters.

Pictures are coming later today and tomorrow, as time allows.

Until then, a couple:

  1. My family had the great honor to help out with HOOAH (Healing Outside of a Hospital) Deer Hunt for Heroes golf outing fundraiser. To shake hands and hug the selfless, humble soldiers and thank them for their sacrifice is something I’ll never forget. James, William, Brett, Thinakhone, Danyel and Daniel: you and all our servicemen will be in my prayers. Special thanks to Wendy Boch for organizing this event with all your time and talent. Also, to Tom, Tom, Joe and all the fine people of HOOAH involved in supporting our wounded at anytime of the day. Your love is inspiring. Finally, to the young fella who stepped up as auctioneer: clearly not your first time and your rocked it! Thank you all! God bless America and its charitable exceptionalism.

  2. There are so many people that need to be thanked for their time, money, and support in this endeavor. They say it takes a village to raise a child, well it takes an army to put on an event such as this. There were many GSL family members present as well as GSL Defense Training members. Members of my family and family of the HOOAH Deer Hunt for Heroes. We also had so many young people (under 21) to help that us older people didn’t have to carry anything!!! This makes my heart happy to see these kids out there helping and doing it with a smile.

I had dinner with the soldiers Thursday night, breakfast Friday morning, and dinner Friday night along with the golf outing on Saturday. The transformation in them in a few short hours/days was amazing. I was touched by their stories and for some their courage to stand up and tell us their own personal story. I was in tears multiple times through the whole weekend. I really don’t have the right words to describe how much this event meant to me and what we all can do for the soldiers.

Special thanks to the Huffington, Graden, and Gaither families. Without their support and dedication, HOOAH Deer Hunt for Heroes would not even exist. I would also like to thank the Pontiac Elks Club for hosting the event and how wonderfully they took care of everything golf related and their treatment of the soldiers.

I know I am forgetting some people, so thank you to everyone that volunteered, donated, golfed, gave money, spread the word, and encouraged me in this project. I’m already working on ideas for next year!
