In the aftermath of two horrific shootings over one weekend, Vox is quite comfortable calling for what the anti-gun left has wanted in this country since the lat 1960’s — full-on gun confiscation.

But let’s be clear about precisely what kind of decision is letting events like this recur, most recently in Dayton and El Paso. Congress’s decision not to pass background checks is not what’s keeping the US from European gun violence levels. The expiration of the assault weapons ban is not behind the gap. What’s behind the gap, plenty of research indicates, is that Americans have more guns. The statistics are mind-blowing: America has 4.4 percent of the world’s population but almost half of its civilian-owned guns.

Realistically, a gun control plan that has any hope of getting us down to European levels of violence is going to mean taking a huge number of guns away from a huge number of gun owners.

Other countries have done exactly that. Australia, for example, enacted a mandatory gun buyback that achieved that goal, and saw firearm suicides fall as a result. But the reforms those countries enacted are far more dramatic than anything US politicians are calling for — and even they wouldn’t get us to where many other developed countries are.

– Dylan Matthews in What no politician wants to admit about gun control

And now at least one Democrat presidential candidate feels comfortable advocating door-to-door gun grabs, too.

    1. This is another reason why trump must go. In a tweet our beloved NY white house gun grabber claims that cumo needed to be red flagged and lose his gun rights for his recent publicity stunt/outburst.

Problem is our beloved NY loser in chief just proved why red flag laws are so dangerous. So trumpet doesnt like your speech, so you lose your gun rights.

I think Cumo is nuts but to take away his rights based on speech? BS

  1. Well, at least they are telling the truth now.

Anybody remember Prohibition? That worked out so well!

  2. How many times has Trump hinted at doing something to appease the Democraps, whether it be about guns or anything else, and how many times has he actually done it. He’s probably playing them for the fools that they are. Don’t be so fast to dump him.

On another note, it says that firearm suicides decreased, but did suicides in general decrease, or did they just find another way to accomplish it?

    1. Trump claims to be the most pro-gun president in history, but he needs to understand that he is disappointing those who worked so hard to elect him. If every time a shooting occurs President Trump reacts emotionally to ban whatever weapon might have been used. This will be a never-ending series of threats to the (our) Second Amendment.
I want President Trump to succeed but he is loosing a lot of votes by pandering to those that will never support him.

  3. Send Dopey Donnie a message &: “DUMP TRUMP IN 2020! SPREAD THE WORD! Grandad said: “Your can trust a killer, because you know he will kill you someday. You can trust a thief because you know he will steal from you someday. Son, don’t you ever trust a Liar, because you never know what that s.o.b. is will do to you!”

  4. Funny thing is, there are more guns in Australia now than before the Port Arthur mass shooting. And there have been several mass shootings since then anyway; anti’s just don’t want to look at that.

  5. Shut up Phil you f-ing commie troll! Trump hasn’t done anything yet. Like Democrats are going to respect gun rights more.

  6. Sadly, it’s going to take people coming together to fix the problem. The news media is doing their job perpetuating the anti-gun sentiment from the oppressors. We all know as gun owners know we don’t go mad just because we have a gun. I feel unfortunately that it going to take until the day some innocent soul and friend opens the door to their confiscation, that people will come together to realize their rights are at stake.

  7. Sorry. Confiscation will just agitate gun violence. Every time they try to go to get someone’s guns they’ll just meet a bigger bunch of us saying don’t think so. That’s not gonna happen not here not today not any day boom. Boom
