The Truth About Guns just released a video showing three of their team drop-testing a Sig P320.  When held from the front forward corner of the trigger guard, the gun discharged two out of three times when dropped from about chest-high.

If you have a Sig P320, I strongly recommend you take it out of circulation at once.  Do not trust this gun with your life.

Dallas PD have pulled the P320 from their approved gun lists and surely, with this video any and every other clear-thinking agency nationwide will do the same within hours.  Especially in this nation where there's a lawyer behind every blade of grass.

Here's the video.

Again, discontinue carrying these guns.  They are a potential killer to you or someone around you should you drop it in this orientation while it's loaded.

  1. Doesn't look like a very safe way to test the thing. Chest armor won't do any good for a head shot.

    1. As pointed out below, it was primed cases only. This was clearly explained in the video.

BMU the plates were because they thought the reports of the P320 not being drop safe were full of $#!+ and they were going to make fun of the all the reports afterwards when it didn't go off.

…but it did go off, much to their surprise.

      O2

  2. Most of these P320 drop tests have been done with just a primer. The bullet and the powder are removed from the cartridge.

  3. The actors Jon Hexum and Jason Lee were killed by less.

I'd say Darwin Award candidates, all.

    1. Jon Hexum was killed with a muzzle-contact head wound with a blank. The paper wad holding the powder was driven into his brain (and the expanding gases didn't do him any good, either).

Jason Lee was killed when a fake bullet, which had been inserted into the cylinder of a .44 Magnum to make it look loaded when shot (with a camera) from the front, inadvertently was left in the charge hole and a blank charge was fired behnd it.

These tests are being done with primed cases ONLY. No powder or paper wadding (as in Hexum) and no projectiles (fake or otherwise), (as in Lee).

SIG SAUER Issues Voluntary Upgrade of P320 Pistol

    Published Date: 08/08/2017

P320 pistol meets requirements for industry and government safety standards; performance enhancements optimize function, safety, and reliability.

Newington, NH (August 8, 2017) – The P320 meets U.S. standards for safety, including the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) / Sporting Arms Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute, Inc. (SAAMI®), National Institute of Justice (NIJ), as well as rigorous testing protocols for global military and law enforcement agencies.

The design of the SIG SAUER P320 overcomes the most significant safety concern in striker-fired pistols today: the practice of pressing the trigger for disassembly. This can be performed with a round in the chamber which has resulted in numerous incidents of property damage, physical injury, and death. The disassembly process of the P320, however, uses a take-down lever rather than pressing the trigger, eliminating the possibility of discharge during the disassembly process.

Recent events indicate that dropping the P320 beyond U.S. standards for safety may cause an unintentional discharge.

As a result of input from law enforcement, government and military customers, SIG has developed a number of enhancements in function, reliability, and overall safety including drop performance. SIG SAUER is offering these enhancements to its customers. Details of this program will be available at sigsauer.com on Monday, August 14, 2017.

The M17 variant of the P320, selected by the U.S. government as the U.S. Army’s Modular Handgun System (MHS), is not affected by the Voluntary Upgrade.

“SIG SAUER is committed to our approach on innovation, optimization, and performance, ensuring we produce the finest possible products,” said Ron Cohen, President and CEO of SIG SAUER. “Durability, reliability and safety, as well as end-user confidence in the SIG SAUER brand are the priorities for our team.”
