A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.  And when an armed robber threatens a card-carrying good guy's family, he might just be asking for a ballistic prescription administered on the spot.  That happened in San Antonio as a brazen bandito pulled a gun on a man at Popeye's.

The robber probably could have walked out without any blood loss…  until he pointed the gun at the man's kids.

Police: Armed man fatally shot after threatening family at South Side restaurant

A man is dead Wednesday night after attempting to rob a another man and his family at a South Side restaurant, police said.

San Antonio Police Department Captain Michael Starnes said a father was eating with his family when the man approached him at about 8:30 p.m. in the restaurant in the 800 block of Southeast Military Drive.

“He was threatened by the robber, who was displaying a gun,” Starnes said.

SAPD Sgt. Roy Miller said the armed man asked the father for money.  The father said he wasn’t giving the man anything and turned to get an employee’s attention, Miller said.

Starnes said that at some point the man also threatened employees, who ran out of the back of the restaurant.

The father, who had been waiting for two of his children to leave the bathroom, told police the armed man turned the gun on his family.

And that's when the fun started.

The father pulled out his own gun and shot the armed man, police said.

“The citizen is a licensed carrier and did use his handgun to take down the robber,” Starnes said.

The man, between 25 and 30 years old, died at the scene, police said.

His body could be seen between the dining area and counter as investigators examined the scene.

Starnes said the father is not facing any charges.

“He really saved the day and protected a lot of people today,” Starnes said.

  1. Man and family are safe, community is now safer, and democrats lose another supporter. Its a win-win all the way around.

  2. And another ferel thug improves the safety of honest citizens by choosing to try robbing an armed "sheepdog" aware of his surroundings. ferel thug DRT, local citizens more safe in the holiday shopping season.I love "happy endings!"

  3. Im willing to bet the bad guy had a record of this crap.  And likely should have been serving time but was out for some reason..

    1. You’re probably right, he had promised to turn his life around and was on the way to choir practice when he had a chicken craving, sad indeed.
