IGOLD 2017

Guns Save Life's board of directors voted unanimously last night to participate in the Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day 2017.  The event, held in Springfield each year, will happen on Wednesday, April 5th this year.  The rally, if it follows past years' iteneraries, will start at the Prairie Capital Convention Center around noontime, and we'll march from there the six or so blocks to the Illinois Capitol around 1:10pm.  After a rally on the Capitol steps, we'll head inside to saturate the Cap complex with a sea of gun owners.  The mission this year:  to let Democrats know that gun owners aren't going away just because right-to-carry passed in 2013.

"The membership and officers of GSL are happy to offer their full support and participation to IGOLD.  We are encouraging an enthusiastic rally on April 5th and look forward to seeing all our friends," said Guns Save Life President Steve Davis following the meeting.  Indeed, Guns Save Life looks forward to a wholesome and safe environment from all participants, including women, children and families.

GSL and ISRA: Stronger together. Guns Save Life President Steve Davis, Illinois State Rifle Association Executive Director Richard Pearson and GSL Executive Director John Boch stand together as one at the December 2016 Guns Save Life meeting in Champaign County.

Go ahead and mark your calendars.  Yes, we know you're a productive American with a job and responsibilities.  Participation in IGOLD is important, and then some as you help influence the legislative process with your participation and attendance.  Communicate your frustrations and desires DIRECTLY with Democrat lawmakers who are squishy on supporting your gun rights.  Bring your family.  Women and young people participating shows the fallacy of the gun hater prejudice.  They think it's only old white guys care about gun rights.  What's more, bring your American flags – even the pocket-sized ones.  Gun owners are all about America, Apple Pie, God, Guns and Guts, after all!  And Baseball too, especially after the Cubs won the World Series in that incredible Game 7 finale!

Gun Groups Work Together
GSL's John Boch took this picture as he and ISRA's Maureen Mulhall, Richard Pearson, Knox Williams of the American Suppressor Association and Shannon Alford of NRA-ILA discuss strategy on Wednesday, Jan. 25th at the Capitol.

Guns Save Life has been working seemlessly with the NRA's Institute for Legislative Action and the Illinois State Rifle Association in Springfield towards our common goal of advancing gun rights.  GSL's lobbyist in training has joined Rich Pearson, Jim Vinopal and Maureen Mulhall of ISRA and Todd Vandermyde, NRA-ILA's Contract Lobbyist in Illinois, and the NRA-ILA's Illinois liaison Shannon Alford in "working the rail" at the Capitol Building.  It's proven educational.  Blood pressure pills are mandatory, but it's rewarding beyond measure when things go well.

Our lobbyists in Springfield are going to need backup.  We need your phone calls, emails, letters and participation in the process to remind (primarily Democrats) that our lobbyists represent hundreds of thousands of engaged constituents.

With that in mind, JOIN US on Wednesday April 5th, 2017.  Join us and potentially thousands of your closest friends for a great day of making a difference and doing your civic duty.  Keep an eye on the ISRA's IGOLD page as they do a great job coordinating buses and scheduling.

Let's flood them with a sea of gun owners.

As if all of that wasn't enough "winning" and good news, we've got more.  The bill to repeal the automatic knife ban in Illinois has been introduced.  Senate Bill 607 allows for anyone with a FOID card to carry or possess an automatic knife.

We'll keep you up to date when Senate Bill 50, the suppressor bill, gets a date in committee so you can submit witness slips to help get it out of committee.

  1. I remember this hullabaloo from last year.  Glad we've patched things up.  It should be fun.  Thanks to our new president for making this happen.

  2. I am so glad GSL is back on track with IGOLD. Please everyone make an effort to attend! It is truly an enjoyable and important day. Even with a favorable president and congress we can't let our guard down and become complacent. I'll be there and sure hope you will be too.

  3. I approve of this message.  Frankly, I am pleased and proud as an ISRA member that Pearson and the ISRA's leadership are taking steps to work with Guns Save Life.  I'm also a GSL member as well and I don't like being put in a place where I have to chose between the two.

The myriad of gun control groups have much to worry about if our state's gun rights groups are all working in conjunction and coordination with the NRA!

Yes, sign up to attend.  Bring one or two friends or family members to their first IGOLD.  It's something special.
