Jackson County

Guns Save Life encouraged our members and supporters, as did the Illinois State Rifle Association, to visit the Jackson County board meeting Tuesday evening.   We said to push back.  Harder.  And boy, did you ever.

The photo above shows overwhelming reaction by locals.  It proves just how much they oppose gun control schemes.  At the same time, not only was there no one there attendance supporting gun control, but the sponsor of the proposal couldn't attend "because of a family emergency."  How convenient, right?

Ahead of the meeting, contacts poured in to the county board members.  GSL thoughtfully provided contact information for the board members.  And on the meeting night, well over 100 people filled the meeting room to well over standing-room only.

The sponsor of the bill could not attend.  Family emergency, she claimed.  Even the Democrat chairman of the board backpedaled his support for gun control.  In the face of over one hundred angry gun owners, he said the issue of gun control "was complicated".  The proposal crashed in flames and burned brightly for all to see.

Complicated?  No, not really.  27 words, Mr. Chairman.

The Southern Illinoisan had the story.  As did WSIL TV.

From the Southern:

MURPHYSBORO — An impassioned crowd packed the Jackson County Courthouse in Murphysboro on Tuesday, with many there to express their  support for the Second Amendment.

The Jackson County Board intended to host a discussion of a possible resolution in support of several pieces of gun legislation under consideration by state legislators in Springfield.

Board Chairman John Rendleman said he was kicking the resolution back to the Legislative and Public Safety Committee for more discussion. A proponent of the resolution, board member Julie Peterson, was not in attendance Tuesday night, and Rendleman said some of the language in the bills has changed since the committee most recently spoke about them.

…There were 22 speakers Tuesday who spoke in opposition of the proposed legislation in Springfield. When asked if there was anybody in support of the legislation, a man's voice from the back from the courtroom shouted, “Anybody want to give up your guns?”

Before and after each speaker in opposition, there was encouraging applause from the crowd.

County Board member Emily Burke, who put a call out for residents to voice their concern for this matter on social media, thanked everybody who showed up at the courthouse Tuesday.

“Make no mistake, there was a resolution that was discussed and sent to the full board and you are a part of that discussion tonight,” she said. “It only took one no vote (her own) and courthouse full of outstanding citizens to defeat this worthless resolution.”

Jackson County, home of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, has a few hard-left gun control supporters on the board.  You get those types in big university towns.  But those who wish to bring Chicago-style gun control to the rest of Illinois risk getting tarred and feathered in downstate Illinois.

  1. This disgusting attempt at infringing on law abiding people turned out to be a good thing, it exposed the traitors and got the voters fired up and it shows other counties what voters think of "gun control". I hope the rats get voted out.

  2. Thanks to GSL and everyone else who alerted us to the problem. Special thanks to those who attended the meeting.
