Our highway signs have proven effective promoting safe usage of firearms as a means for promoting safer families, safer neighborhoods, and conveying the facts concerning responsible firearms ownership. These signs proclaiming freedom's messages are made possible through the cooperation and coordination of many persons, including the landowners, the installation crews, editorial committees, legal people, and financial donors.

As America enters the new century, many argue that the U.S. Constitution is obsolete — a forlorn relic of the past. We couldn't disagree more. America is founded on the centuries-old tradition of freedom building and freedom preservation, starting as far back as human history allows. Acknowledgments of these freedoms, including the right of free people to keep and bear arms, were incorporated into the Magna Carta in 1215 AD. It is the pinnacle of arrogance to suggest that one can (or should) wipe away centuries of the fabric of a free society and to replace it blithely with some new (half-baked) idea that life would be peaceful and happy without firearms. Moreover, the proponents of this new societal engineering are so myopic that they fail to see their "new" ideas aren't so new. Throughout history these ideas have failed miserably — often resulting in great bloodshed when tried.

The right of free people to defend themselves from bullies, thugs, tyrants, despots, and even arrogant governments is an inalienable right that needs to be preserved and vigorously defended. These popular highway signs do exactly that. They bring the facts to the public at large (a million or more people each month) in an entertaining and effective way. The battle over gun rights in our country must be fought using the power of the First Amendment — the guarantee of free speech — as a part of the political process.
