3 TO 5

Today proved a brutal day for gun rights in Illinois.  Those seeking to turn the most law-abiding Prairie State residents into felons overnight danced with glee as Illinois' most radical Democrats passed one gun control measure after another.

As I wrote yesterday evening (as I prepared for a medical procedure today), Speaker Madigan wants to put these bills on Governor Rauner's desk to put him in a lose-lose situation.

If he signs the bills, he enrages two million plus firearm owners in Illinois and enough of them stay home that Mr. Rauner has no hope of re-election.  If he vetoes them, he potentially alienates enough swing voters in the suburbs that he can't get re-elected.  There, I said it.  It's not that top secret if you're playing chess instead of checkers.

Obviously, you should call your Representatives and Senators, especially if they are Democrats or either party in the suburbs.  Ask them to oppose these gun control measures.  The receptionist is only using hash marks to tally the calls, so save your breath.  A simple, "ask him/her to oppose these gun control bills" will suffice.

After Action from Today:

First off, most notably, Gun Dealer Licensing (SB-1657) passed.  By four votes.

Here's the tally from the House vote.

sb1657

Votes were not taken today on House Amendment 1 of House Bill 1469.  This bill makes possession of two or more magazines with greater than 15 round capacity a Class 2 felony.  Don't believe me?  It's in the bill.

18       (d) Sentence. A person who knowingly delivers, sells,
19   purchases, or causes to be delivered, sold, or purchased in
20   violation of this Section a large capacity ammunition feeding
21   device capable of holding more than 15 rounds of ammunition
22   commits a Class 3 felony for a first violation and a Class 2
23   felony for a second or subsequent violation or for delivery or
24   possession of 2 or more of these devices at the same time.

That's 7 to 14 years in prison.

Glock17

Oh yeah, same bill:  If you've got body armor, you're getting arrested.  Even if you're just trying to make it home after working the late shift at the convenience store.  Or taxi driver.  Or pizza delivery driver.  On a good guy volunteering at a soup kitchen in the rough part of town.  Commander Paul Bauer would never have approved of stripping good guys from the ability to protect themselves with body armor.

Also, no vote on  House Bill 1664 (Amendment 1).  It allows for anonymous complaints to a State Police hotline to report someone with access to a firearm is a danger to him/herself and/or others.  The problem (is it a feature, not a bug?) is that there are no penalties for unfounded complaints.  There is complete anonymity (even if Rep. Willis can't pronounce that word to save her life).  And the law mandates the Illinois State Police follow up on each and every call.

No doubt the anti-gun folks will look at Alinsky's Rules for Radicals and start making calls on family members they don't like.  Or high-profile gun rights people like Todd Vandermyde, Richard Pearson, John Boch or Valinda Rowe.  The Left knows that Walmart and Walgreens both sell burner phones.  That's assuming a person doesn't want to skip acquiring a burner phone and instead pick up a phone in Aisle 12 of their local Walmart and just call out a certain hotline number.

When the ISP initiates an investigation from the call, they may "request" (that's a nice way of saying require) a psychological evaluation from an ISP-approved mental health provider.  AT THE FOID-HOLDER'S EXPENSE.  Those will not come cheap.  And then there's the cost of lost time from work to jump through those "requested" hoops.  Failure to pay for and receive said evaluation and you lose the FOID card and if you've got a CCW license, you lose that as well.

So yes, effective cops can have baseless allegations levelled by the families of arrestees.  Prison / jail guards can enjoy much the same.  And obviously, so can NRA members.  Let's not forget:  so can politicians on both sides of the aisle.  And media talking heads.  Then there's college professors and local school teachers with students unhappy about their grades.  Who else would you like to get even with?

Remember, the ISP is legally obligated to divert resources to investigate each and every anonymous call.

House Amendment 1 to HB1468 increases the waiting period on black guns to 3 days.  Passed.  Goes to the Senate.

hb1468

House Amendment 1 to HB1467 is a bump stock / trigger crank ban.  Yep.  It passed overwhelmingly.  It goes to the Senate.

HB1467

House Amendment 1 to HB1465 is a ban on black guns, .50 caliber rifles and standard capacity magazines (anything that holds over 10 rounds) for 18-20-year-olds who can today buy, possess and use said firearms.  Passed.  Goes to the Senate.

HB1465

House Bill 0772 passed the Illinois Senate today.  It's a Lethal Violence Order of Protect bill, which would strip gun owners of their gun rights via an ex parte court order.  In other words, there's no due process before cops show up at your house and take your guns, by force as necessary.  It goes back to the Illinois House for approval.

HB0772

Call your Illinois House member and Senator.   ESPECIALLY IF YOU LIVE IN THE SUBURBS OF CHICAGO or if you have a Democrat House member representing you.

Don't have the contact info for your State Representative / Senator?  No problem.  Here's a search engine.

Make those calls.  Tell them to VOTE NO on these gun control bills.

  1. I would say we gun onwers had a real bad day. I have tried for 2 days to contact my state rep and senator. Lines have been busy both days.  Both are solid progun votes and their votes on these bills prove it. I must say I thought Mrs Ives would have voted against the bump fire stock but she voted yes. I guess she doesnt expect to win in the primary for governor. I was told today that Rauner was going to veto at least some fo the bills but now it looks like he is still thinking about it. We need to let the governor know that we do not support these bills, and neither should he. The 2,200,000  gun owners in the state needs to wake-up fast.

    1. Phone lines were busy, but I emailed and got a reply from my state rep (a Dem), who basically just said "it looks like we have differing views on this issue, but thanks for your opinion."

  2. You dumb ass people cannot legislate criminals into compliance! You are only screwing over your constituents, you know, the very people who voted you in! This ignorant spur of the moment, knee jerkey reaction will not stop jack shit! What about Chicago? A full ban has been in place for years, and look. You would think for a bunch of grown people getting illinois out of debt would be the FIRST priority, but NOOOOOO, let's show the people that's left, and those possibly thinking on moving here what brainless leaders we have by voting in a senseless bill that will do nothing to protect residents. Thank you for opening up my home, making me defenseless so I cannot protect my family!

  3. I leave for a year to the Middle East on a deployment, and by the time I get back, the state, the country I fight for changes into a country that may not be worth my time and effort to save.

    Currently Deployed and thoroughly disgusted!!!

    1. You are a great American for serving! Maybe there will be a more acceptable counrty on the way back!

  4. Wow what a dumb liberal state we live in please vote no. It’s not a gun problem it’s a snowflake problem

  5. Nothing about enforcing the existing gun laws on the books to fight the criminals that don't give a rats ass about laws anyway!

  6. I wonder how many of these bills will be challenged Constitutionally and how much of the taxpayers money will be spent defending them?

  7. Just because these bills were passed it doesnt mean we have no need to call. If your rep voted for these bills let them know of you displeasure.

There are more bills yet to come. Contact everyone you know and let them know what has happened. Encourage them to call

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE CALL THE GOVERNOR!

Remember Feb 28 as  Bloody Wednesday

  8. Since I have a F.O.I.D. card and a Glock 17, those a-holes in Springfield make me a FELON!  Hey jerks, my gun is defective anyways. Have had the damned thing over 6 years, and IT has not killed anybody yet! And what mades these morons think that any of the gun toating gang bangers will listen to these laws, since they ignore all the ones that we have now?

  9. Just saying. Maybe, just maybe, if more folks had showed up at IGOLD last year, there's a possibility that these legislatures would not be so embolded this year.

  10. More than 7 genocides have happened in the last century.  One ended as recent as 1995, another is ongoing.  In several, the sustained rate of exterminations was 2 million people a year.  That is near six thousand people a day.  Can you imagine 200 of our "mass shootings" every day?!?

    1. What is with the jew jock sniffing around here?

Elie Wiesel acknowledged fabricating the five million non-jew "holocaust" deaths. I suppose he was honest about the six million though?

  11. you idiots that think criminals will follow the laws your living under a false pretents that this will help. there is a reason why our for fathers didnt put muskets in the secound amend. we the people must be able to defend our selves as equally as our enemies and our gov. what part of shall not be infrenged on dont you idiots understand. rauner veto this shit.

  12. Grandstanding and showboating by politicians who either don't know or don't care about what their constituents want. Show yoier displeasure with your vote!

  13. The democrats just keep on ruining this state day after day by all their B.S. activity !…………. They have broken the state, lost our credit rating, have the worst reputation as legislators by being brain dead, with insane thinking process………….Not one of these bills will help and has never been intended to do so, it is & has always been to have more & more control over the tax paying citizens …………JOIN THE NRA………..JOIN THE ISRA………..JOIN GOA……..STAY STRONG AGAINST THE ILLINOIS POLITICAL ESTABLISHMENT = DEMOCRATS !

  14. I simply don't understand the idea of making felons out of people with the mere stroke of a pen.  I don't know how anyone can vote for a bill that would do that even if the person had positive views of the bills lanquage.  The mere lack of crime purportrated by F.O.I.D card and Carry card holders ought to give those folks a bit of priviledge.  I don't get it.  Why make a felon out of a good guy that just doesn't keep up with the latest crap coming out of Springfield.  Is it not possible for someone to be out of the state for a prolonged period of time only to come home and face arrest?  This is gooffy.

  15. Cops showing up to confiscate your guns even by force just won't happen… That thing called the constitution still holds water in a courtroom. I will be making the call anyway….

  16. Making a LAW OBIDING CITIZEN a felon with the stroke of a pen, what do you all not understand.  Criminals will always find a way to gain access to firearms, no matter the law.  ENFORCE THE LAWS YOU ALREADY HAVE IN PLACE!!!!!!!!  Vote No!!!!!  Which ever way you go, it will be remembered at election time.

  17. Time to fight back.  The British tried the same thing and did a number of traitors.  Let them come they will get therirs
