Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face.

Such is the case in sparring, or fighting.

And such is the case for a 61-year-old bad guy (isn't he old enough to know better?) who pulled an armed robbery of a woman in Chicago.

COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE (DNAInfo) — A mysterious good Samaritan came to the aid of a woman getting mugged at an Andersonville bus stop, cold-cocking the attacker with a Thermos and leaving him on the ground for police to clean up, authorities said.

But authorities don't know who swung the Thermos: The good Samaritan took off before officers arrived, leaving a bus stop full of witnesses to tell the tale.

It started Monday afternoon, with the woman waiting for a bus in the 5200 block of North Clark Street, Assistant State's Attorney Lorraine Scaduto said during a bond hearing Tuesday.

The woman spotted a man — later identified as Rolalio Lomeli, 61 — holding a knife, prosecutors said.

Wielding a knife?  That would be what the folks at the FBI call a "clue".

She moved away from him, but he followed her and grabbed her from behind. As the woman struggled to get away, the Thermos-wielding good Samaritan stepped in and knocked Lomeli in the head, prosecutors said. He fell to the ground and was still lying there when police arrived, court records show.

I'm trying to muster some compassion for the armed robber.  Looking.  Looking.  Nope.  Can't find any.

Check this gem out:

Cook County Judge Donald Panarese Jr. on Tuesday said Lomeli could be released on his own recognizance as long as he qualifies for the Cook County Sheriff's Office's electronic-monitoring program. If not, Lomeli will be responsible for $100,000 bail.

So Cook County will release an ARMED ROBBERY arrestee on electronic monitoring?  What?

Is it any wonder Chicago has a violent crime problem?

  1. I wonder how much taxpayers pay for armed security for Cook County Judge Donald Panarese Jr. ?    He obviously isn't on the streets alone like the rest of us or he wouldn't be so willing to release violent criminals to walk amongst us.

  2. Apparently they did not hit him in the head hard enough.  Just like good shot placement and bring enough gun, he should have used "enough thermos', the bad guy should not have been revivable.  As is often stated, its best to leave them DRT.

  3. I've known this man for many years (the alleged mugger) and he wouldn't hurt a fly. He's NEVER done anything remotely like this, ever. I will believe this when I see proof. He doesn't speak English well, and is easily misunderstood. I really don't believe he tried to mug anyone. A knife with a hook on the end? What does that even mean? I refuse to believe that in the middle of the day during rush hour, he would try to rob someone. I believe the woman thought he was suspicious and someone came and hit him. We'll have to trust the justice system for now.

  4. Lomeli is currently a guest of Sheriff Darts Division 10 Bed and Breakfast, where he will be cooling his jets till 10-17, unless he has 100K in a shoebox somewhere.
